How we provide care:
Seniors Helping Seniors offers personalized in-home services provided by seniors who want to help. Accepting help is often easier when the caregiver is a peer who can relate on a personal level, someone who understands the desire to remain independent.
It can be hard at any age to ask for help. But reaching out to Seniors Helping Seniors can change your life in a positive way. You’ll stay in control throughout the process – selecting a care provider who you feel comfortable with. Our employees are seniors themselves and they understand what life is about. They want to help you with the activities that you may need a little assistance with at this point in your life. They also want to help you get out and enjoy life and keep you company when you are feeling down or lonely. But most of all they understand and value your life experiences in a way that younger caregivers cannot.
Help for a loved one:
Mobility issues, declining health and other challenges can make it difficult for seniors to maintain a good lifestyle, live safely and continue to participate in activities that they enjoy. You want your loved ones to maintain a high quality of living but may encounter resistance when suggesting getting help outside of family members. The resistance often involves some form of loss – loss of a spouse or partner, memory loss or the thought of losing one’s privacy and overall independence. Seniors don’t like changes in routine and worry about becoming a burden to friends and family.
Accepting help is easier when the companion or caregiver is a peer who can relate on a personal level, someone who understands the desire to remain independent. We can suggest strategies to counter resistance when suggesting outside help. It is important to understand your loved ones needs and preferences and also their fears. Describe the benefits and discuss how assistance can prolong independence and allow seniors to remain in their own home. We can help your loved one enjoy life – especially if physical or memory challenges have limited their activities. A trial run may be a good strategy to let seniors test the waters. Our affordable rates and no minimums make a trial run a great option.
In more difficult situations, especially if you are concerned about safety issues, enlisting the help of professionals such as the senior’s doctor, a clergy member or other trusted friend might increase acceptance that help is needed. Worsening memory impairments, changes in mobility, mood and behavior, or erratic sleeping patterns are all signs that help might be required. Additionally, detecting changes in diet, physical appearance, household maintenance and driving habits are clear signals that should not be ignored. We know it’s hard to take that first step – we are here to help.
Our Senior Care Providers
Our providers come from many walks of life and most are retired but looking for an “encore career.” Many come from helping professions, nursing, teaching and other human services and most have experience in caregiving for friends and family. They have many different skills and interests but have a common desire to serve other seniors.
All of our care providers go through a rigorous screening process that includes interviews, reference checks and a comprehensive background check. After pre-employment screening, caregivers receive ongoing training, a TB test and bonding by our Liability Insurance carrier.
By helping with daily activities, our compassionate caregivers enable loved ones to maintain independence and normal daily routines. We offer 24 hour care as well as hourly home care even on an as-needed basis. Surrounded by their possessions, pets, and a familiar environment, our clients receive the support they need to enjoy their regular activities and continue living well at home.
